This workshop covers the foundational skills in portraiture drawing, with a focus on proportion and tonal relationships. You'll learn how to identify the correct shapes and angles in a face to achieve accuracy and feeling of a portrait using our proven art school methods. We will talk to the importance of correct tone and edges to bring softness and depth to your work. Charcoal is the ideal medium for working in portraiture — it's responsive, soft and creates beautiful contrast quickly making it an ideal medium for building your confidence.
What you will learn in this workshop:
- How to find a suitable portraiture reference
- How to use charcoal powder, pencils, chalks and accessories
- Blending in charcoal
- How to establish correct tonal relationships
- How to find correct portraiture and structure in a face
- The difference between "likeness" and "gesture" in portraiture
- How to create realism in portraiture.

If you are unable to attend your workshop the following refund policy applies:

More than 7 days notice: A full refund will be provided (less $20 booking fee)

Between 7 and 4 days notice: A refund of 75% will be provided.

Less than 4 days notice: A refund of 50% will be provided.
We are unable to offer credits for future workshops.
Our workshops require a minimum booking of 10 students - in the case of cancellation you will be given 3 days notice and a full refund.
