Questions and answers about our classes
-
The classes run in 10 week terms (same as the school term). You sign up for 10 weeks at a time. You’ll book in for a class time that you come to for those 10 weeks at the same day same time. The regular adult/high school classes run for 2 hours, studio classes run for 2.5hrs, kids classes run for 1.5hrs. During the 10 weeks we run through various drawing & painting mediums designed at giving you a broad experience of art.
-
All supplies are provided for the classes. We recommend bringing a journal or folio to keep your artwork in for the adults/high schoolers. We have a recommended journal suitable for the classes which is an A3 Winsor & Newton 200gsm Heavyweight Spiral bound journal, however if you have something suitable from home you can bring that in. Art is an investment so we believe its great to be able to look back on the work that you’ve made.
-
We take complete beginners to practicing artists and everyone in between. We can cater our classes to your ability level depending on how much you want to challenge yourself and your experience. We believe art is a learnable skill rather than a “gift” some people have & others don’t, so all are welcome! It’s your responsibility as the student to communicate with your teachers how you’re going with your learning & what you’re wanting to get out of it.
-
No we don’t currently offer trial classes. If you enrol in the classes & find after the first class that you’re not suited to them, you may apply for a refund for the rest of the term. After the first class we cannot refund based on change of mind.
-
We currently only have a 10 week term option but if you’re interested in more 1 off classes we run weekend workshops every now and again.
-
You can begin at the start of any of them terms. We always come back to the foundations of fine art at the beginning of each term.
-
When you enrol online there is an option for Afterpay in the checkout. Otherwise upfront payment is required to secure a spot in the classes. (We are looking to use a subscription style payments that are fortnightly.. it’s coming soon!)
-
We understand life can happen, so we try to help you get all of your classes in each term. You can do a make-up class at a different time slot. There are a couple of extra spots in each class for extras students. But the availability of those depends on how many extra people show up & how many people come to their regular class. It’s best to come a little early to secure your spot as it is subject to availability.
-
If you don’t mind missing out on some classes feel free! It is your responsibility to manage the classes you come to. It’s also easy to come to an extra couple of classes before/after you leave, it just might not be the same subjects that we’re teaching when you’re away.
-
Yes! We are currently planning workshops for the school holidays & weekends. There will be medium specific ones & kids workshops available for all different ability levels. If you’re interested just send us an email letting us know & we’ll add you to the workshop mailing list to keep you up to date.
-
Yes we can facilitate these. Email us at hello@artschoolco.com & let us know what you’re thinking.
-
Essentially no, best thing to do it to get on our waitlist & we’ll let you know when we’ve open up enrolments. Until then you aren’t able to reserve a spot. Our current students always get priority in re-enrolling for the next term before we welcome new people.
-
We usually let current students re-enrol in the last 2-3 weeks of the term. We’ll then open up re enrolments to new students once we’ve given our current students a chance to enrol in the class of their choice. Sign up to our waitlist to receive an email when they open up!
-
It changes term to term. But over a year we will cover, graphite, charcoal, colour pencil, biro, conte, ink, pastels, mixed media, watercolour, acrylic, gouache, oils.
-
We encourage all students to follow the curriculum for at least 2 terms before starting projects that are different from the curriculum. The classes are designed to push artists & encourage them to try lots of mediums. If you enjoy a particular medium you can opt to do an extra week on it. Just always communicate with your teachers your goals for the class & your learning.
-
We can often take you through a couple of the principles we talked through the week before & set you up with the medium, but we can’t replicate the exact teaching after that missed week.
-
Yes! You can get your classes subsidised by the NDIS. We do not facilitate the organising of the funding, it must be self managed or done by a third party. Send us an email for further information.
-
No not currently. We try to keep the pricing of our classes as low & reasonable as possible so we are unable to give out discounts.
