This one-day workshop will guide you through the expressive world of charcoal drawing, combining both traditional and experimental techniques to create a powerful, large statement artwork.

Led by artist Shyanne Clarke, whose practice celebrates light, movement, and the beauty of expressive line, the day is open to both beginners and experienced artists, with guidance tailored to your individual style and pace.

We’ll begin by sketching from life, using observation to warm up the hand and eye. From there, you’ll explore the five elements of light, composition, and dynamic design before bringing it all together in a large-scale statement piece that reflects your unique artistic voice.

You will learn:

• Drawing techniques and expressive mark making
• The five elements of light and how to capture them
• Composition and dynamic design principles
• How to develop and complete a large statement artwork
• Advanced techniques with acetone and soy milk to add texture and depth

You’ll leave the day with a dramatic finished piece, ready to frame, and a deeper appreciation for the expressive power of charcoal.

- If you are unable to attend this workshop & give less than 7 days notice you can ask for a credit to be used at future workshops at the school to equal or lesser value. If of greater value the difference must be paid. If less than 48hrs notice is given a 50% fee will be taken off the credit. Please contact hello@artschoolco.com if you are unable to attend.

- Workshop credit cannot be used towards term classes or the store.
