RACHELLE KAVANAGH
Rachelle Kavanagh (b. Maryborough, Australia) is an emerging figurative painter based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Working primarily in oils, her practice explores quiet moments of observation and the subtle gestures that reveal human presence within a space.
Her paintings often depict figures absorbed in acts of looking, pausing, or reflecting.
Through a restrained palette, careful attention to posture and composition, and a sensitivity to light, Rachelle creates contemplative scenes that balance impressionistic realism with atmosphere. Architectural interiors and gallery spaces frequently appear in her work, providing a stage for small human moments that invite viewers into a slower, more attentive experience of looking.
With a background in primary education, Rachelle has developed her art practice through years of studio study and mentorship while building a career in arts education. She has been teaching art for over six years, working with both children and adults, and currently serves as a manager and head teacher at Art School Co. on the Sunshine Coast. Her role as an arts educator continues to inform her studio practice, reinforcing a deep belief in creativity as a lifelong practice best nurtured within creative community.
Alongside her studio work and teaching, Kavanagh is raising three young children with her husband, cultivating a creative and curious home life. Outside the studio she enjoys pursuits that balance focus and play, from solving sudoku puzzles to spending time outdoors with her family.
Her work has been exhibited across Queensland and she has been a finalist in several art prizes, including the Queensland Figurative Award at the Royal Queensland Art Society.
